Morihiro Saito Shihan

art130511-13.jpg

Saito Shihan was the only student able to get 23 years of practice with the founder, and one of the few students who was able to learn bukiwaza from the founder. He was also the only shihan who was allowed to teach bukiwaza at the Aikikai Honbu Dojo in Tokyo. He later organized these bukiwaza so that anyone can learn them through the "Seven Point Suburi", "Thirty-one Point Jō Kata", "Thirteen Point Jō Kata", "Twenty Point Suburi, Awase, and KumiJō". After the founder passed away, he became the head of the Ibaraki Dojo, passing on the teachings of the founder. The style of Saito Sensei's aikido later became known as the Iwama Style.
